No estimate on when service would be restored
NEWTON -- A major water main break has left Newton and sections of Andover Township without water Thursday morning, according to officials.
The break occurred on Sparta Avenue, an alert from Newton officials said. Emergency repairs were ongoing Thursday morning, but there was no immediate estimate on when service would be restored.
Newton police said trucks with water were deployed for impacted residents.
"Tanker trucks with non-potable water will be stationed at the firehouse on Mill Street and the firehouse on Lawnwood Avenue," the police department said on Facebook.
Drinking water is also available at the Andover Borough Firehouse on Route 206, according to police.
"Crews are working on the repair and Newton OEM is coordinating backup water. Sparta Avenue will be closed. More info will be provided when available," the police statement added.
Officials said they planned to provide more updates through Newton's online alerts and social media.
