VERNON - A 53-year-old Vernon woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when her car overturned and struck a tree after she lost control near a curve in the roadway, police said.
Following the accident, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Vernon Crossing Road, the woman was trapped inside her 1998 Chevy Blazer and needed to be extricated by emergency services, Vernon Police Lt. Keith Kimkowski said.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.
Police are withholding the woman's name until her next of kin is notified.
The crash remains under investigation by Vernon police and the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office, Kimkowski said.
