The crash occurred on Route 80 in Roxbury on Thursday night
ROXBURY -- A Sussex County man is in the hospital after State Police say he crashed his 2017 Toyota Tacoma on Route 80 Thursday night while intoxicated.
The crash was reported at 10:31 p.m. on Route 80 west near mile-marker 32.4 in Roxbury, State Police spokesman Lawrence Peele said.
Frank Polizzotto Jr., 46, of Hopatcong, was traveling west in the Tacoma when his vehicle ran off the highway, struck the guardrail and became disabled in the right shoulder, Peele said. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Polizzotto sustained serious injuries in the crash but his front-seat passenger -- Jason Hall, 35, of Sussex -- wasn't injured, Peele said.
Polizzotto, who was believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment, Peele said.
During the course of investigating the crash, State Police troopers also found heroin inside the vehicle, Peele said.
Polizzotto was charged with DWI, while Hall was charged with heroin possession, he said. Polizzotto may face more charges depending on the outcome of his toxicology report, Peele said.
