The race raised money for the Sparta Education Foundation.
SPARTA -- Dragon boats powered by a team of twenty flew across Lake Mohawk Sunday to raise money for charity.
A dragon boat is 46 feet long double-wide canoe that seats 20 paddlers and one drummer designed to look like a dragon with a dragon head on the bow.
In the third year of the races, 48 teams took to the water after paying $1,500 to register their team.
Boats raced against each other and were timed over the 250 yard course on a beautiful spring day.
"We raised more than $50,000 last year and hope to do even better this year," said Danielle Dykstra president of the Sparta Education Foundation.
Money raised goes to benefit the Sparta Education Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the Sparta public schools.
