Carmine Fenison allegedly posed as a doctor by calling a Walmart pharmacy and ordering prescription drugs, authorities said.
FRANKLIN -- A New York man was recently indicted for allegedly trying to obtain drugs by posing as a physician earlier this year, authorities said.
Carmine J. Fenison, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged in March with unlicensed practice of medicine, criminal attempt for attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud and drug possession after he allegedly posed as a doctor by calling a Walmart pharmacy in Franklin borough.
Police said at the time Fenison posed as a doctor when called the Walmart pharmacy on March 28 and requested prescription drugs be prescribed to an unknown male but failed to follow certain protocols.
Detectives observed Fenison leave the Walmart in a livery vehicle from New York after he unsuccessfully tried to obtain narcotics from the pharmacy.
He was later stopped on Route 517 by Sparta police at the request of Franklin police and arrested without incident.
When he was arrested, police said he also had marijuana and codeine.
Fenison was indicted by a grand jury on July 13 on third-degree charges of unauthorized practice of medicine and surgery or podiatric medicine and attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, and fourth-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release.
Fenison is expected to be arraigned within about six weeks of his indictment, according to the prosecutor's office.
