No arrests have been made in the incident at the Airport Diner in Wantage

WANTAGE -- The world's leading organization combatting anti-Semitism is speaking out after a local diner was defaced with swastikas and other images over the weekend.

"We are deeply concerned by this shocking display of hate," Joshua Cohen, New Jersey Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), said on Tuesday.

No arrests have been made in the vandalism at the Airport Diner, which was discovered by the owner on Sunday morning.

In addition to swastikas, the ADL -- in a statement Tuesday on the incident -- said the graffiti included the phrases "Heil Hitler," and "Kill Jews," and the symbols "WPWW," "14/88," and SS lightning bolts.

The ADL explained that WPWW stands for "White Pride Worldwide," and that the number 14 refers to the number of words in a white supremacist slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

The number 88 is a white supremacist numerical code for Heil Hitler -- the letter eight being the eighth letter in the alphabet.

"Unfortunately, displays of anti-Semitism have become too common in New Jersey," Cohen said.

Anti-Semitic incidents in New Jersey rose from 137 in 2015 to 157 last year, a 14 percent increase, according to the ADL.

Nationally, incidents rose by 35 percent, to 1,266.

Cohen said, "We must remain vigilant in combatting hate wherever and whenever it happens."

Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor Greg Mueller said an investigation remains ongoing in conjunction with the State Police.
