SPARTA - A 34-year-old Sparta man faces charges after police said he was intoxicated when he drove himself to the police department to obtain information on a previous incident in the township.

Sean M. Cullen arrived at the Sparta Police Department around 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and spoke with Sgt. Jeff Mase, who suspected the man was drunk, Sgt. Dennis Proctor said.

Cullen admitted to police he drove himself to the department, but claimed he was not drunk because he had not had any alcohol since earlier in the day, Proctor said.
