Horse owners invited to attend meeting on equine herpes virus

An informational meeting on the equine herpes virus (EHV-1) will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Western Hills Christian Church in Tranquility, N.J.

An informational meeting on the equine herpes virus (EHV-1) will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Western Hills Christian Church in Tranquility, N.J.

The forum is being coordinated by East Coast Equine Veterinary Service to discuss recent events and continued biosecurity for horses and farms. All horse owners and equine professionals are welcome and encouraged to attend.

A farm in Doylestown, Pa. is still under quarantine after four horses were euthanized after becoming ill with the neurologic form of EHV-1. Eight other horses developed symptoms but since Jan. 8, no new cases or fatalities had been reported according to the Equine Disease Communication Center. The quarantine will be in effect until 21 days after all horses are symptom free.

One of the deceased horses had shown in New Jersey 10 days prior to becoming ill. No cases of the disease have been reported in New Jersey.
