At 2:57 p.m., police responded to the area of Woodside Avenue (Route 206) and Paterson Avenue on a report of a crash, Newton police Chief Michael Richards said in a news release.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a 17-year-old Green Township girl was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion south on Woodside Avenue with three juvenile passengers when she failed to yield the right of way to a northbound 2004 Volkswagen Passat, operated by Daniel Frost, 20, of Stanhope, as she turned left onto Paterson Avenue, Richards said.
After the two vehicles collided, a third vehicle--2014 Audi operated by Richard Peck, 49, of Mendham--crashed into the Passat, he said.
Frost and Peck weren't injured in the crash, but the four teens were taken to Newton Medical Center, he said. Their injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening, but one of the teens was flown from the hospital to Morristown Medical Center by medical helicopter, he said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but charges are expected, Richards said.
Woodside Avenue was closed for about an hour following the crash, he said.
