Both the motorcycle and the other vehicle involved in the crash caught fire, police said.

WEST MILFORD -- A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital Thursday evening after he was involved in a fiery crash with another vehicle, police said.

Robert Gates, 63, of Newton, was driving a 2005 Victory V05 motorcycle east on Oak Ridge Road shortly before 6 p.m. when he crossed over the center line and struck a 1999 Plymouth Voyager operated by Mary Vanderstad, 56, of Oak Ridge, Lt. Stephen Singerline said in a news release.

Gates was ejected from the motorcycle in the crash, and both his motorcycle and the Plymouth caught fire, Singerline said.

Gates was flown to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment, but his condition as of Friday morning wasn't available. Police didn't indicate whether Vanderstad was injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the West Milford Police Department.
