Robert Reynolds and Clark T. Fredericks were both charged in the 2012 slaying.

NEWTON  -- A Mansfield resident pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges stemming from the fatal 2012 stabbing of a former Scoutmaster who was accused of sexual abuse by another man charged in the Scoutmaster's death, The New Jersey Herald reported.

Robert Reynolds, 51, admitted to one third-degree count of burglary and another for hindering. Prosecutors will recommend concurrent five-year sentences on the charges when he's sentenced Aug. 25.

Reynolds once faced charges that included attempted murder and conspiracy for what authorities said was his role in the murder of Dennis Pegg, a corrections officer.

Reynolds was accused of murder alongside his friend Clark Fredericks of Stillwater, who said Pegg had sexually abused him for years when Fredericks was a boy. Authorities had said Fredericks and Reynolds had been drinking and using cocaine June 12, 2012, when the pair went to Pegg's Stillwater home. Pegg, 68, died after being stabbed 30 times.

5 years for man who killed his alleged abuser

At Fredericks' sentencing in December, Judge Thomas Critchley said he believed Fredericks' accusations of abuse but declined a defense request to find Fredericks guilty of a third-degree charge. Fredericks was sentenced  to five years for passion-provocation manslaughter, the minimum sentence allowable for that crime.
