This year, the Stillwater Volunteer Fire Department is trying out an exciting new kind of fundraiser with their Mountain Bike Poker Run.

To be held on Sunday, October 2, the Poker Run is a 23.5 mile loop on trails through scenic Sussex County including the Pulinskill Valley Rail Trail, the Sussex Branch Trail, Great Valley Rail Trail and the very scenic Hyper Humus Wildlife Management Area. Suitable for all 2-wheeled riders, it is a fairly flat loop of mostly rail trails through some beautiful countryside.

Your entry fee donation includes a hot lunch (organizers are planning pulled pork and Cuban sandwiches) at the finish line festival and live music by the Acoustic Wolves. Complimentary pre-ride bike checks by Bicycle Source will also be offered.

And where does the poker part come in? There will be 5 stations along the way where you pick a playing card to eventually make a complete poker hand. (At the half-way point, grab a snack as well|)

At the finish line, you may choose to discard and draw up to 3 more cards (an additional $5 per card).

The best hands win great prizes including a new Giant Talon 29'er Mountain Bike (valued at $850) and other bike-related prizes.

There is a limit of 150 rider participants, so be sure to register early at the Poker Bike Run Eventbrite page.  If you register before September 2, your registration fee is only $50.  After that, the fee goes up to $60.  You may also make non-rider donations to the SVFD on the same page.

Rider check-in will be open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Riders may start their ride right after registering. The festival will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
