Costume contests and candy galore

Whether you're looking to trick-or-treat or trunk-or-treat (even trick-or-trunk), New Jersey has a wealth of events for children, families, pets and anyone who likes to dress up for the holiday.

From now through the end of the month, events for Halloween 2015 are in full swing. Parades, costume contests, ghost walks, bonfires and hayrides are just a few of the seasonal activities on offer in the Garden State this fall.

ATLANTIC COUNTY

The New Jersey Researchers of Paranormal Evidence hosts haunted tours at the Absecon Lighthouse, a site visited by the Syfy channel's "Ghost Hunters" show, at 5, 6, 7 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 24. The Tropicana Casino and Resort's "Ultimate Halloween" will be on the boardwalk from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 with a Halloween-themed light and sound show, a "Thriller" dance with the "Boogie Nights" cast at 8 p.m. (the first 100 dancers to register get a trick-or-treat bag), and a costume contest in the Tropicana Quarter from 9 to 10 p.m. 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. The Chelsea Hotel hosts "Bizarre III A.C." A level of the parking garage will be converted into a "post-apocalyptic zombie escape course." There will also be visits from stars of horror movies, vendors, and a range of macabre offerings like makeup demonstrations, a ghost hunt, and a monster ball. The event starts at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 and noon on Oct. 17 and 18. The Chelsea is at 111 S. Chelsea Ave. in Atlantic City. Tickets $25, $40 for a two-day pass or $55 for a three-day pass. Egg Harbor City's Halloween Parade is at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the municipal building; eggharborcity.org

The Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences presents "Paranormal 101," with the New Jersey Researchers of Paranormal Evidence. Paws Farm Nature Center in Mount Laurel hosts its Halloween Bash from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 23. There's a maze, crafts, games, a haunted house and a costume parade at 7. The Bellmawr Trunk-or-Treat has contests for best costumes, jack-o'-lanterns and trunk-decorating. $10 per car in advance includes four wristbands for trick-or-treating ($15 at gate); $3 for trick-or-treating wristbands. 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Bellmawr Recreation Center. In Haddon Township, the 68th Westmont Lions Halloween Parade up Haddon Avenue is at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 (rain date Oct. 31), with floats, bands and a costume contest. Children are invited to trick-or-treat at Cape May's Washington Street Mall (300 to 500 Washington St.) from noon to 2 p.m. on Oct. 18. The Cape May Halloween Parade is at 3 to 5 p.m. at the same location.
