Former DePaul standout Kareem Walker is sidelined at Michigan until he gets some work done in the classroom.
It looked like 2016 was going to be filled with promise for former DePaul running back Kareem Walker. The five-star recruit, considered one of the top running backs in the country for his class, graduated high school early and enrolled at Michigan in January.
Walker participated in spring camp and made plenty of noise with his aggressive running style. However, he was nowhere to be seen on Saturday in the Wolverines' season-opening victory over Hawaii. And it's because he's got some work to do in the classroom, according to MLive.com.
"He's working through some things academically," Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh told MLive.com. "Where less football and giving him the ability to concentrate on academics for the next weeks (is important).
"And we'll get some progress reports. But we want to make sure he's doing the job in that regard before he's (back with football completely). Full-time with academics (right now)."

Eyebrows were raised this summer when Walker was one of three players who didn't appear in the team photo. Another N.J. recruit not pictured was Ahmir Mitchell, who has since left the program and signed with Rutgers.
Coming out of DePaul, Walker was a First Team All-State RB. He chose Michigan over Florida State, Auburn, Alabama Arizona State and many others.
Harbaugh did not provide a timeframe for when Walker will be back on the field.
