Smoke from the fire could be seen at least 10 miles away, according to a report.
WANTAGE -- A mother and son are safe after a escaping a fire that destroyed a home in Wantage Friday, according to a report.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the New Jersey Herald reported, a fire broke out at a residence on Sterling Road, causing a mother and son inside the home to flee.
It took fire crews more than an hour to battle the blaze, officials told the Herald, and smoke was visible at least 10 miles away from the scene.

Two other children and the woman's husband were not home when the fire erupted, the Herald reported.
The fire is not considered suspicious, according to the Herald's report, and remains under investigation.
