Kimberly Kerton is facing theft charges, police say
FRANKLIN -- A 41-year-old borough woman is facing theft charges after police say she stole Social Security benefits intended for a child she previously supported.
Kimberly E. Kerton defrauded the Social Security Administration by failing to report that a child was no longer in her care and custody, and failing to use the child's monthly benefits for care and support, Franklin Borough Detective Nevin Mattessich said in a news release.
Kerton allegedly misused about $4,691 of the child insurance's benefits between Aug. 1, 2013 and June 30, 2016.
Kerton was charged with theft by deception and theft by failing to make lawful disposition. She was later released pending a court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.
The charges, Mattessich said, may be presented to a grand jury for a potential indictment.
