The 133 dogs arrived at Morristown Airport through a California based organization "Wings of Rescue." MADISON -- Madison-based St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center recently participated with partner shelters to welcome 133 small dogs to New Jersey from five shelters in southern California.
The dogs arrived at Morristown Airport through a California-based organization called Wings of Rescue and were transported to ease the overcrowding at the shelters caused, in part, by wildfires.
"We and our partners have communities full of loving homes eager to adopt these deserving dogs and we are glad to pull together to lend assistance and help give back to the source community to address overpopulation," said Heather Cammisa, president and chief executive officer at St. Hubert's. "Meaningful partnerships, on all ends, weave the strongest safety net for animals."
The dogs, which all weigh 25 pounds or less, include Chihuahua mixes, wiry coated terriers and poodle mixes. The dogs have all had preventive vaccines and will be available for adoption once spayed and neutered.
St. Hubert's shelter locations in Madison, North Branch and Mount Olive will have dogs available for adoption, as will New Jersey partners Sammy's Hope in Sayreville and Animal Rescue Force in East Brunswick.
