NETCONG -- A man who police say held up gas stations in Netcong and Rockaway over the past few weeks struck again early Tuesday.
The robber held up the Shell gas station on Green Pond Road on July 19 and is believed to have robbed the same gas station again at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Rockaway Township Police Chief Martin McParland, Jr. said.
During the second robbery, the man brandished a handgun and stole $150 from the gas station attendant. No one was hurt during either robbery, McParland said.
The gas station attendant, he said, was also present during the first robbery on July 19 and told officers he recognized the man's voice during Tuesday's robbery.
Township police said in a news release the robber fled on foot to an unknown car parked in a nearby business. The vehicle then fled south on Green Pond Road and headed east on Route 80. A BOLO, or "be on the lookout" alert, was issued for the vehicle but it has not been located at this time. It's not yet known whether anyone else was in the vehicle, police said.
Anyone with information related to this robbery can contact the Rockaway Township Police Department's detective bureau at 973-625-4000.
Authorities have also said the same robber twice held up the Valero gas station in Netcong at the intersection of Route 46 and Route 183 at about 3 a.m. on July 26 and Aug. 2. The robber was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, dark-color shoes, a black mask and glasses and has been described as about 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 in height, according to Morris County CrimeStoppers.
Morris County CrimeStoppers has offered a $1,000 reward for information on these armed robberies.
CrimeStoppers hasn't said how much was stolen during the July 26 robbery but it did say the man stole $180 in cash during the Aug. 2 robbery before fleeing the scene by heading east on Route 46 toward Roxbury in a gray sedan. About $500 in cash was stolen during the July 19 robbery in Rockaway Township.
