Authorities say Marshall Cohen traded images with a sex offender in Maryland

NEWARK -- A Hardyston resident has been accused of sending images of child pornography to a sexual offender in Maryland and receiving similar images in return, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul Fishman said in a statement.

Marshall M. Cohen, 48, has been charged with a single count of distributing images of child sexual abuse and was in federal custody Wednesday following a court appearance.

Authorities in December learned through an investigation that the Maryland resident created images of a 2-year-old girl being sexually abused. The Maryland offender shared those images with Cohen in exchange for other images of abuse, authorities said. Cohen's home was searched Wednesday.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
